KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qasim Ali Shah on Wednesday said real challenge has begun for young graduates to serve the people of Pakistan and Sindh province selflessly to improve health care system in the country as they enter in professional life.
Addressing the 12th convocation ceremony of Ziauddin University at the Expo Center Karachi, 378 students were conferred degrees, while seven Sir Ziauddin Ahmed Academic excellence gold medals awarded to students who achieved top positions. Chancellor Ziauddin University Dr Asim Hussain, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui and senior faculty members were also present on the occasion.
The recepients of Sir Ziauddin Ahmed excellence gold medals included ; Amrah Hasan (MBBS), Aneeka Anwar (BDS), Asifa Naseem (SL& HS), Ali Saleem (Pharm D), Saniya (Bio-Medical), Farida Khan (BScN) and Huma Nadeem (Clinical Lab Sciences).
Chief Minister said that “I am delighted to see achievements of young graduates and congratulated the students and their parents”. He also appreciated the efforts of Ziauddin University and its faculty for training students at par with international standards. He also announced a grant of Rs 50 for Ziauddin University for establishment of Liver Transplant Unit in the institution.
He lamented that only 20 doctors joined duties out of the 100 hired in Tharparkar to improve patient care in the district. He claimed that Civil Hospital Mithi has been up-graded and hospital can be compared with other similar hospitals of the province.
Chancellor Ziauddin University Dr Asim Hussain said Sindh is pioneer of private education institutions in the country and while congratulating graduates, Dr Asim advised the students to gain and develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes, honesty and behavior of good human being.
Lt Gen (R) Moinuddin Haider said Ziauddin University is a seat of learning to which the young graduates of today’s convocation and therefore they must cognizant of the great traditions they have to uphold.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui congratulated the young graduates and their parents, and wished them prosperous future.
“You are fortunate to be graduating from one of the best institutions in the country. My expectations from you are of a very high order not only as professionals, but also as intelligent and wise voices in the community you will now serve. This is the time we need they very best of truly educated minds; their skills and specialized knowledge, their patience, understanding, tolerance and above all compassion. May you bring reason and hope to all those you touch in your professional and personal lives and may you make your work deeply rewarding and truly satisfying,” he said.
