KARACHI - The Department of Community Dentistry under the super intendance of Head of Department Prof. Dr. Asghar Ali Shigri and his team members Dr. Samreen Mazhar, Dr. Mahwish Bano, Dr. Mohammad Ali Laghari and Dr. Raza Abbas Abidi arranged a Quiz competition for the students of 2nd year BDS.
Honorable judges invited to judge the participants were the senior facility of Baqai Medical University including Prof. Dr. Asad Jawaid, Director Postgraduate Studies; Prof. Dr. Asghar Ali Shigri, HOD Community Dentistry; and Dr. Zahid Akhter, Head of Department Prosthodontics.
It was due to the stringent efforts of teachers and commendable hard work of HOD that the event was well conducted. The quiz competition was strictly regarding the course outline and no general knowledge questions were included in the quiz.
The competition was arranged in order to help the students with their academia and also to encourage them in curricular activities. The students enthusiastically took part in the event. The quiz teams comprised of 4 major groups, with each group being made up of 5 to 6 subgroups.
In the first stage; the subgroups of each major group had to compete with each other in order to qualify for the next round. Any two groups from each subgroup qualifies for the next round, in which total 8 groups were to compete. The best 4 among those 8 were able to qualify for the semifinals.
After a tough competition two teams came up for the finals. There was a great end to the competition. The winner team was praised and offered a huge round of applause. Teachers were appreciating the students for their hard work, enthusiasm and consistent efforts.

The principal, Prof. Dr Kashif Ikraam toured and regarded the efforts of the HOD and the teachers. He furthermore added that such competitions will be conducted on regional scales in the near future. In the end of the competition, he distributed the participation certificates among the participants and the winning team was awarded prizes. The students and staff alike requested the arrangement of such competitions regularly as they encourage confidence-building, team-work, and reinforce the students’ education.
