Islamabad: Plans to establish a Medical Tower with an 800 bed capacity at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences have been approved by the Capital Administration and Development Division.
The Medical Tower at PIMS will be an estimated Rs 8.3 billion investment with an 800 bed capacity, out of which there will be 2 VIP rooms, 100 private rooms and 200 semi-private rooms for patients. The facility will also include a separate dental and medical college for national as well as foreign students. It has been confirmed by the authorities that the average classroom in these colleges will have the capacity to accommodate up to 100 students.
The PIMS Medical Tower has been planned as a private-public partnership program. It will offer specialized medical treatments and surgeries including cardiovascular procedures and liver transplant operations, among others. It was revealed that the major shareholder of the project is SZABMU with 51% of the total shares. These facts were discussed during a meeting presided over by Barrister Usman Ibrahim, Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division CADD, which took place at CADD earlier this week.
Prominent attendees of the meeting included IPDF CEO Adil Anwar, Vice Chancellor SZABMU Javed Akram, IPDF Senior Infrastructure Specialist Ahmad Imran, Director Finance CADD Saeed Ullah Niazi, and Administrator PIMS Dr Altaf Hussain.
The Minister stressed the need of a state of the art medical facility and school in Islamabad. He said that such a medical facility will have an integral role to play in ensuring optimal health of the future generations. He also confirmed that IPDF will proceed with legal documentation of the project once it had been verified by SZAMBU.
