Karachi - Improving the overall health of the global population remains a key component in the mission of Sir Syed College of Medical Sciences - Karachi. At the same time, community service programs provide valuable learning opportunities for our students. The college believes that; Enlightening our future health care professionals about the health disparities found in our society and around the world, is a vital part of a comprehensive educational endeavor in dental medicine. Dr. Marium Azfar - Head of Department, Community Dentistry at Sir Syed College organized a “School Teacher’s Awareness Programme” supported by the management of Defence Housing Authority Karachi. Special informative events were held at the The D.A. Model School Phase VII and D.A Montessori School. The Main objective of this initiative was to promote oral hygiene awareness among teachers. Different sessions related to Oral Hygiene and health were conducted by some renowned experts from Sir Syed College Of Medical Sciences, to inform and train the school teachers. At the end of the session, the participating school teachers were awarded with certificates of participation and free samples of tooth pastes and brushes from the sponsoring company - Colgate. Dentistry has made great strides towards improving public health. An improved healthy smile also helps in elevating a child’s self-esteem and confidence. The teachers were informed and enlightened about the importance of oral hygiene, so they can educate their students about Oral health and its benefits. Cleaner, stronger teeth improve the overall health of children, and ensure healthy growth of children from the earliest phase of their life.
