Digital experts and novices gather in Istanbul

ISTANBUL, Turkey: Sirona, an international provider of dental CAD/CAM systems, is inviting dentists and dental technicians from around the world to the third Digital Dentistry Symposium, which is to be held from 14 to 16 November 2014 in Istanbul. Participants will learn about the latest trends and developments in the world of digital technology during presentations and workshops by well-known CEREC experts.

“At the Digital Dentistry Symposium expert users and those who are new to digital technology come together. Once again we have secured a number of top-class speakers for this event,” said Baris Akalin, Sales Manager of CAD/CAM Systems at Sirona Turkey.

“Digital vs. conventional dentistry” is the title of this year’s opening lecture by Prof. Selim Pamuk, President of the Turkish Academy of Esthetic Dentistry and a well-known dentist in Turkey. In other lectures, international experts will present the latest technologies, discuss topical questions on digital dentistry and identify perspectives for the future. Dentist Dr Umberto de Luca from Rio de Janeiro, who has been working with CEREC for 21 years, will give listeners insight into his daily work in his presentation “A day in the clinic using the CEREC chairside system”. Swiss dentist Dr Andreas Bindl will give a lecture titled “CAD/CAM and implantology: From implant planning to the final restoration”. Dental technician Bastian Heinloth, who owns one of the most advanced dental laboratories in Germany, will speak on the digital connection between the dental laboratory and the dental practice.

In parallel to the lectures, workshops on a variety of methods and techniques will be conducted in four training rooms. Those new to CEREC will have the opportunity to learn more about CAD/CAM technology from scratch. In an introductory workshop on the CEREC process, Dr Dennis Fasbinder, a clinical professor at the University of Michigan, will offer participants practical insights into the CEREC technology—from taking impressions with the intra-oral camera to the digital production of crowns and inlays. Experienced users will be interested in attending “The art and science of posterior restorations” by Turkish dentist Dr Mete Fanuscu. Since workshop places are limited, it is recommended that participants book early. According to participants surveyed last year, the workshops were both very productive and helpful. The survey also found that all attendees assessed the event overall as good or very good.

The symposium will be held at the Hilton Istanbul Bomonti Hotel and Conference Center . An early bird discount will be granted to all those who book before 30 July. With this discount, entrance tickets, participation in workshops and accommodation are around 35 per cent cheaper.
