Doctors penalized for negligence by PMDC

ISLAMABAD- Various punishments have been announced by the Pakistani authorities, to penalize the doctors who were found committing different kinds of professional negligence. The new and strict punishments have been implemented by the Disciplinary Committee of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).

As per recent media reports; These punishments include; Suspensions and warnings to 50 doctors who were accused of professional negligence. According to PMDC, a meeting of the Disciplinary Committee was held to address complaints of people and patients against negligence and misconduct of doctors.

The committee issued suspension orders to 10 doctors and censure to four more doctors. The Committee issued warnings to 10 doctors for their minor misconducts. Similarly, 19 accused doctors were pardoned as they were not proven guilty. The council has fined five doctors, up to Rs. 50,000 for their misconduct and other negligent acts. Addressing the committee members, Chairman Disciplinary Committee - Dr Asim Hussain said that; The PMDC will not tolerate any negligence or misconduct on the part of any doctor and no doctor will be allowed to play with the lives of innocent patients. He further stated that; “We are going to hold disciplinary committee meetings in all the provinces of the country to safeguard the public at large.”
