Dow offers high quality teaching standards: Dr.Zafar Ullah Chaudhri

By M Irfan ali KARACHI - Dow University of Health Sciences delivers high quality medical and dental education in Pakistan, as stated by Dr Zafar Ullah Chaudhri, president CPSP, and the chief guest at the inaugural sessions of the 6th Annual Dental Symposium Dow University of Health Sciences, with theme "Our Role in Leading the World to Optimal Oral Health" at Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan Institute of Oral Health Sciences recently. Dr Chaudhri said that dental had only four specialties in 1990 but now there are many specialties in Pakistan and CPSP has already started a postgraduate education programme in periodontalogy with the collaboration of DUHS. The symposium was held across all the campuses of Dow and was very well attended. The symposium included pre-symposium state of the art workshops, intercollegiate quiz competition for UG students, numerous scientific sessions, trade exhibition and an extensive public awareness programme. Earlier, Prof. Masood Hameed Khan, Vice Chancellor Dow University of Health Sciences, speaking on the occasion said that teachers at Dow are as committed as mothers and their devotion to students is unparalleled, this has ensured a bright future ahead for the students of Dow. He further said, DUHS provides 95 percent Medical and Dental postgraduate training programs in Pakistan. Prof. M Umar Farooq, Pro-vice Chancellor, Principal DIKIOHS, in his speech said that state of the art workshops and informative lectures are an integral part of the symposium to impart knowledge based skills to the participants.  He further said that DIKIOHS is the second dental college after de'Montmorency in Pakistan to provide many postgraduate training programmes under the umbrella of DUHS. The symposium attracted some of the top National speakers and the participants gained tremendously from their presence. The symposium was very well attended since it was held across the city which provided the opportunity to the people to be able to attend in large numbers. —Research writing workshop The workshop on Research writing was conducted as part of the pre-symposium workshop at the Dr.Ishrat-ul-Ebad Institute of Oral Health Sciences. The Supervisor of the workshop was Dr Masood Jawaid . The session proved to be an excellent source of guidance, for all the post-graduate as well under-graduate students, for conducting research in any field. Dr Masood, in his unique yet simple style of delivery, captivated the audience throughout the session. Among the participants were under graduate students from Medicine and Dentistry and also the Post graduate residents of FCPS from the medical and dental specialties as well as the MDS residents from both the clinical and basic sciences. Dr Jawaid covered all the aspects of the Research Writing in the workshop, starting from; the Topic selection, sample size, discussing briefly the biostatics and data collection and then discussed how to compose the collected data a nd present it in written form.
