FDI statement on recent attack in Barcelona

18 August 2017
FDI is aware of yesterday’s attack in Barcelona and is deeply saddened by the loss of lives following this tragic event. We stand in solidarity with the people of Spain in these difficult times of unrest in the world.
We are pleased to communicate that the Spanish government has taken swift and effective action to control the situation and restore safety. From our side, we are taking all the necessary security measures to ensure a safe FDI World Dental Congress in Madrid in the end of August. Furthermore, our local partner and member, the Spanish Dental Association, has issued the following statement:
“On behalf of the Spanish Dental Association and all the dentists of Spain, I want to thank all the signs of love and solidarity that we are receiving in these hard moments. Unfortunately, it is not the first time we have suffered attacks of this nature, where unreasonably cruelty strikes people around the world. The strength of all of those who dedicate our lives trying to make people healthier, increases with the support of all our friends. The FDI congress in Madrid will demonstrate once again that regardless of our nationality, race or religion, we are fraternally united by the same goal of saving lives and making our people happier.”
Dr Óscar Castro Reino, President of the Spanish Dental Association
We therefore look forward to welcoming you in Madrid for the FDI World Dental Congress, 29 August-1 September.

Dr Patrick Hescot
FDI President
