The first batch pursuing its Masters in Dental Surgery (MDS) qualification at the Dow University of Health Sciences in Karachi, have recently presented their MDS Theses to their panel of Supervisors and Examiners. These MDS candidates included; Dr. Affan Ahmed, Dr. Marium Zaheer and Dr. Arsala Urooj. Dr. Affan Ahmed is pursuing his MDS in Dental Materials. His thesis title is: “Effect of Different Concentrations of Chlorhexidine Mouth wash on Micro hardness and Color Stability of a Nano-composite: An In-vitro Study”. Dr. Affan's supervisor for this MDS programme is Dr. Syed Yawar Ali Abidi, who is the programme Director, Associate Professor & Incharge of the Operative Dentistry Department at Dr. Ishrat ul Ibad Khan Institute of Oral Health Sciences. (DIKIOHS) Dr. Ashraf Ali Meo – Chairman Deptt of Materials Engineering at NED University of Engineering and Technology Karachi, is the Co-supervisor for Dr. Affan, while the External Examiners include Dr. Feroz Ali Kalhoro – Head of Operative Dentistry at Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, (LUMHS) Jamshoro along with Dr. Nadeem Hafeez Khokhar – Associate Professor Operative Dentistry at Hamdard College of Medicine and Dentistry Karachi (HCMD). Dr. Farah Naz – Associate Professor of Operative Dentistry at Dow International Dental College (DIDC) is the Internal Examiner, Dr. Nazeer Khan – Director of ORIC & Research Professor of Biostatistics at DUHS is the Observer, and Prof. Dr. Umar Farooq – Pro-VC, DUHS is thethe Administrator for Dr. Affan's MDS Thesis. Dr. Marium Zaheer is working towards her MDS degree in Oral Pathology. Her thesis title is: Prevalence of Areca Nut chewing habit and the clinical spectrum of associated Oral mucosal pathologies among school going children in Karachi.” Prof. Dr. Anwar Ali from Department of Oral surgery at DIKIOHS is the Supervisor and Prof. Dr. Talat Mirza – MBBS, M.Phil (Histopathology), Ph.D, Professor at Dow International Medical College (DIMC) is the Co-Supervisor for Dr. Marium Zaheer. Her External Examiners include; Dr. Syed Ghazanfar Hassan Taqvi FDS, RCS - Oral Surgery, LUMHS and Dr. Kashif Naqvi, FDS, RCS, Oral Surgery at Hamdard University Dental Hospital (HUDH). Her Internal Examiner is Prof. Dr. Mirza Muhammad Shakir – Principal of Dow Dental College. The Observer is Prof. Syed Nazrul Hasnain – Incharge Biochemistry deptt at DIMC, while the Administrator is Dr. Wasif Iqbal - Vice Principal of DIKIOHS. Dr. Arsala Urooj is seeking her MDS degree in Oral Pathology and her Thesis title is: “Association of Iron deficiency, Anemia with Oral Submucous Fibrosis. Prof. Dr. Anwar Ali from Department of Oral surgery at DIKIOHS is her Supervisor and Prof. Dr. Akbar Agha of DIMC Pathology Deptt is her Co-supervisor. Dr. Arsala's External Examiners include; Dr. Naveen Faridi – Head of Histopathology, Liaquat National Hospital and Prof. Dr. Navaid Rashid - FDS, RCS, Prinicipal of Oral Surgery, Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry (LCMD). Her Internal Examiner is Dr. Shaheen Ahmed – Assistant Professor DIMC Dental Section, while the observer is Dr. Masood A. Qureshi – Director IBMS at DIMC, along with Prof. Dr. Junaid Ashraf – Principal of DMC as the Administrator for Dr. Arsala Urooj.
