HBS Medical and Dental College arrange outreach program

Islamabad- Community Dentistry Department of HBS Medical and Dental College recently arranged a community outreach program, which was headed by Dr Qurat-ul-Ain, HOD Department of Community Dentistry). International College of Dentistry (ICD) Michigan USA, Section XV, Region 24, Pakistan, also participated in the program with great zeal. Camps were set up in various schools, wherein a team of qualified dentists visited to perform oral check-ups on school children. Prof. Dr Arshad Mehmood Malik visited the camps and examined school children along with the team as well.

The activities involved in this free camp included oral screening, DMFT recording, educating the children on healthy eating habits, make them aware of their current oral status and counselling them about their treatment needs. Brushing techniques along with correct timing were taught to each student.

The team of dentists has visited 5 schools so far, which include The Real School, where 200 students were screened; Sultana Foundation, junior campus, where 201 students were screened; 213 students were screened in Sultana Foundation, boys campus; in Commodore Learning Foundation 301 children were screened; and finally 150 students were catered in The Educators Falcon Complex.

The goal is to continue this mission throughout the month, and create as much dental awareness among the young generation as possible, with a hope for healthier teeth and better general health.

Dr Naeem Ghani, CEO of Sultana Foundation, invited Dr Qurat-Ul-Ain along with her team for a board meeting, wherein very important aspects of child behaviour and development were discussed. Dr Qurat-Ul-Ain highlighted the value of oral health, and the role of mothers in developing children’s habits. She also spoke on the cosequences of poor oral health on general health in the long run.
