IDS 2019: Leading dental business summit

Cologne, Germany-   The International Dental Show, 2019, officially opened its doors for the 38th time on the morning of March 12th, with the ribbon being cut. It was a 5-day event, extending from March 12th to 16th, in Cologne. The opening was performed by representatives of the German dental industry, IDS staging company Koelnmesse and an international sporting champion. Olympic medalist and sports ambassador Britta Heidemann joined show organisers in the opening ceremony.

IDS- the world’s leading trade fair for the dental sector is as much an international marketplace, a showcase for performance and innovation, and a communications forum for experts and colleague as it is a real hub for an excellently networked industry in an increasingly digitalized world. At the IDS- which is unique in terms of its depth and breadth, the entire dental industry was represented: from dental medicine, to dental technology, infection protection and maintenance, through to customer services, information, communication and organizational materials. No other dental trade fair worldwide presents such a wide spectrum of offers of
dental products and services.

This year, around 2,300 companies from over 60 countries attended the dental show. At over 160,000 m² of exhibition space- covering covers Halls 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 and 11- IDS offered these companies great contact chances and business opportunities. 70% of the registered companies were from outside Germany: Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, France, Great Britain, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Pakistan, Russia, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey and the USA among others.

With forward-looking innovations, countless new products, exciting live demonstrations and practical hands-on, IDS 2019 presented the most important concepts and technologies to the entire dental industry of today and tomorrow.

Henry Schein, Inc. showcased their latest business, clinical, technology, and supply chain solutions for health care professionals at the IDS. They featured a rich line-up of activities promoting technology advances in dentistry, a wide range of value-added services, and educational insights from industry and professional thought leaders. In addition, Henry Schein’s implant businesses, BioHorizons and CAMLOG, showcased a comprehensive line of dental implants, restorative components, CAD/CAM, and innovative regenerative solutions. Developed with the ultimate goal of early osseointegration and long-term bone stability in mind, the ultra-hydrophilic, multi-zone implant surface, TiUltra- by Nobel Biocare- took anodization technology a step further.

Dental Bauer presented its new dental unit design, “bluemarina”, which consists of an elegant treatment unit with matching furnishings. The treatment dominated its respective field with its detail-rich and timeless elegance in combination with state-of-the-art modern technology and ergonomic shape. Each year, annual design awards have recognised Dental Bauer’s outstanding creative contributions to innovative practice design.

At the Show, several novel compounds attracted attention. Swiss oral health company CURADEN has released a novel dentifrice with organic key ingredient; CURAPROX Perio Plus+is a new generation of antiseptic mouthwashes, gel and toothpaste containing just the right amount of chlorhexidine and CITROX- a potent natural antiseptic sourced from bitter oranges- that enhances Perio Plus+’s effect against a wide range of pathogens. Sangi, based in Tokyo, made a spectacular appearance at the Dental Show with their hydroxyapatite toothpaste, which easily became the highlight in the area of home-based oral care

An important theme that is affecting all industries across the globe, was also clearly perceptible at IDS 2019 is the "digitalisation".

Awarded the 2018 German Innovation Award for fast and quality panoramic, cephalometric and 3-D imaging. the KaVo ORTHOPANTOMOGRAPH OP 3D was also presented at the IDS. The patented ORTHOceph Plus design for cephalometric configurations enables fast cephalometric imaging scanning and adjustable field of view sizes for perfect image quality with a minimal radiation dose. KaVo exhibited their KaVo X Pro intra-oral scanner for easy digital impression solution for dental practice.

From 3D printing to digital plastic-free impressions; from comfortable padded dental chairs to atraumatic extractions; from upgraded dental instruments to improved dental materials, a vast variety of inventions and innovations were exhibited at the 38th IDS. In addition to extensive live demonstrations and presentations that took place alongside the product presentations at numerous stands, the 'Speakers Corner' of IDS opened up additional opportunities to gather information. The exhibitors used the hosted visitor forum for lectures and product presentation as an additional means of presenting new products and trends from their offer of products and services.
