MMDC setting trends for outreach

Multan- The Department of Community & Preventive Dentistry of Multan Medical & Dental College (MMDC) has taken initiative towards outreach programs; for this purpose Garrison Academy Multan Cantt was visited. The program supervisor was Assistant Professor Dr Aeeza Malik supported by the team of Dr Jawad Tareen, Dr Yasir Naeem, Dr Anum Zaheer, Dr Malik Zain, Dr Ayesha Latif and Dr Subhan Tanveer. The students of 2nd year BDS also accompanied in order to gain academic exposure in relation to their course topics like epidemiology, surveys & planning research programs, indices, cross infection control, health education and promotion.

The Garrison students were provided oral examinations in the school ground. Findings obtained were mainly dental caries, fluorosis and stains which were recorded on the WHO proforma. The supported team then went to each class and demonstrated the recommended brushing methods using a typhodont. Panaflex posters were used to inform students about the healthy and unhealthy food habits. As an incentive for participation, goody bags containing a small tooth paste, tooth brush and a game book were distributed.

Following the success of this program, Principal (MMDC) Prof. Shabbir Ahmed Nasir, COO (MMDC) Mr. Imran Rasool and Principal (MDC) Dr. Muhammed Zulfiqar are now planning and supporting the idea of conducting regular outreach programs from the ground of Multan Medical & Dental College and Ibn-e-Sina Hospital and Research Institute Multan.
