Naegleria claims another life

KARACHI- Another person died from Naegleria in a private  hospital today, raising the death toll to eight in Karachi this year.

A man, Muhammad Talib Ali Khan, 56, resident of  Samanabad , FB Area, Gulberg Town, Karachi was diagnosed with brain-eating amoeba Naegleria on 9th June 2015 and was under treatment at a private hospital in Karachi where he lost his life to the deadly disease.

Director Health Karachi Dr Zafar Ejaz confirmed the death of Talib Ali Khan from Naeglerai in a private hospital informing that the death toll from Naegleria risen to eight this year so far.

He said an awareness program under the banner of health department has been carried out in various city towns to prevent people from Naegleria.

He said town health officers have also been assigned the task to organize awareness programs on a regular basis in respective towns to create maximum public awareness about the diseases, saying that health department has also constituted committees to collect water samples to check chlorine administration in water supplied to different areas of city.

He advised the people to ensure chlorination of water reservoirs at homes, mosques, offices and other work places to ensure prevention from Naelgeria in summer season.
