Oral Cancer Genomics Seminar, RCD

A Oral Cancer Genomics Seminar was organised by Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department, Rehman College of Dentistry (RCD), Peshawar, and Centre of Genomics, Rehman Medical Institute (RMI), Peshawar). The objective of this seminar was to create awareness about Oral Cancer. Epidemiology of cancer worldwide and in Pakistan along with its current management,  genetic etiology, introduction to DNA, prognosis and need for research  were the topics that were discussed .

Chief Guest of the seminar was Dr Riaz Ahmad Khattak, Vice Chancellor CECOS University and Guest of Honour was Dr Ghulam Rasool, Dean Khyber College of Dentistry, Peshawar.

Speakers included Dr Zubair Durrani, Consultant and Head of Department OMFS;  Dr Aimen Mahmood Shah, Registrar OMF; Dr Sahd Rashid, Registrar;  Mr Hanif Ullah Jan, Technologist Centre of Genomics; Syed Adnan Haider, Scientific officer, Centre of Genomics, Basic Molecular Biology Techniques; Bibi Sabiha, Scientific Officer, Centre of Genomics , Genetic Etiology of Oral Cancer; Dr Johar Ali, Head of Department, Centre of Genomics from RCD and RMI, Peshawar; and Dr Faisal Khan, Assistant Professor, CECOS University.

Dr Faisal talked on the topic ‘Precision Medicine in Pakistan: Potential for Oral Oncology Prognosis and Need for Research in Oral Cancer.’

There was also the launching of Genomic Society of Pakistan, by Dr- Iftikhar Qayyum, Director of Research at RMI.
