Karachi: Every year the month of August revives the spirit of patriotism. It refreshes the memories of the sacrifices made by our forefathers in 1947 so that our country could breathe independence. It reminds us of our commitment towards our nation to safeguard its rights, work towards prosperity and stand in solidarity against all odds.

Flag raising ceremonies and special Independence Day programs are hosted throughout the country, where we show support for the ongoing struggle in Kashmir, appreciation for the nation’s brave heroes protecting the borders and most importantly, to pay homage to our forefathers who made sacrifices and devoted their lives for the freedom movement.

This year too, asthe country sparkled in green and white, students of Bahria University Medical and Dental College made preparations with great exhilaration. The university building was decorated with flag buntings. Senior officials, teaching faculty and students, dressed in national colors assembled joyously around the flag pole in the university courtyard. Synchronized with the flag hoisting ceremony at President House in Islamabad, the flag was raised by a senior faculty member at 9.00 a.m.

Everyone sang the national anthem after the flag hoisting ceremony fervor and enthusiasm. The participants were further delighted by refreshments as they greeted each other ‘Yaum-e-Azadi Mubarak!’
