PESHAWAR – A poster competition was recently held at Sardar Begum Dental College, as a yearly event, organized by the Department of Science of Dental Materials. The competition was supervised by the following faculty of the department: Dr Tahir Ali Khan (HOD), Dr Amjid Naseer (Associate Professor) and Dr Munazzah (Demonstrator). The competition was held among the students of 1st Year BDS who were divided into ten groups with eight students in each group. The faculty members of Sardar Begum Dental College Peshawar, Khyber College of Dentistry Peshawar and Bacha khan Medical College Mardan were invited to assess and judge the efforts of students. The posters were judged on the basis of technical content, visual appearance, understanding answers and student contribution. The students made and presented various topics related to dental materials. The purpose of this competition was to encourage and motivate students to be involved in such activities and to further enhance their knowledge and skill of presentation. The poster ‘Curing Cycles in Acrylic Resin’ grabbed the first position. The winner group participants were Nayab Khalid, Laiba Hassan, Laila Khan, Sarah Zaman, Amena Munir, Mashood Ahmad, Asad Khan and Sheheryar Atif. The poster ‘Dental Impression Techniques’ secured the second position. The poster ‘Atraumatic Restorative Technique’ secured the third position. The top 3 groups were awarded cash prizes by the administration of Gandhara University, Peshawar.
