KARACHI-A poster competition was recently held at Ziauddin College of Dentistry. The competition was organized by the Department of Oral Medicine and Diagnosis, under the supervision of Dr. Afifa Razi (Head of Department). She provided a great platform to communicate the importance of oral health, facilitating the provision of knowledgeable skills of students. The organizing committee included Dr. Nosheen Nazir, Dr. Iqra Akram, Dr. Nigam Anwar and Dr. Khizra Rehman. B.D.S. Third and final year students participated in this competition. A total of 21 posters on various topics including Hepatitis C relationship with Lichen Planus, Needle stick injury, Burning mouth syndrome, Stems cells therapy in oral mucosal lesions were highlighted. The competition was judged by Prof. Mervyn Hosein, Principal of Ziauddin College of Dentistry. He appreciated the work of both students and the department in and emphasized the need to conduct more educational activities & competitions in future among different dental colleges. The winning poster was “Effects of oil pulling in plaque induced gingivitis” by a group of final year students including Zulekha Yaseen, Gulrukh Khan, Hiba Nouman and Neha. They were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 3000. The first runner up poster was “Diagnostic steps of interpretation of a pre-malignancy” (3rd year students Fatima Bandy, Zeenat Asad, Rida Saeed and Maham Khan). They were awarded by cash prize of Rs. 2000. Poster on “Thalessemia major and its effects on Oral and Periodontal Health” (Final year students Syed Saad , Neha Nigar and Javeria Waqasi) was the second runner up. They were also awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1000. Certificates were distributed to all the participants. The students greatly enjoyed this activity and hoped to participate in future events too.
