Study group on Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery meets in Rawalpindi

 

RAWALPINDI - The quarterly academic meeting of Oral & Maxillo-facial Surgery (OMS) study group for twin cities was held recently at Margalla Institute of Health Sciences, Rawalpindi. It was also in conjunction with the 1st International OMS day, announced by International Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Faculty and staff from the Department of OMFS, MIHS presented topics covering major aspects of maxillofacial surgery, including dental implants, oral pathology, facial deformity and facial trauma. The academic meeting began with a brief introduction of the scientific program, followed by a presentation by Dr. Saman Malik - Registrar; Department of OMFS on the utility of sinus lift in augmentation of posterior maxilla. She showed cases of both lateral and crestal approaches to sinus lifts.

This was followed by a presentation by Dr. Zahid Qayyum - Assistant Professor on 'Pathology of submandibular and sublingual glands'. He shared clinical cases of non-neoplastic and neoplastic pathology of salivary glands. Dr. Usman ul Haq - Assistant Professor followed suit with a presentation on Distraction Osteogenesis, in which he showed cases of unilateral and bilateral use of distraction osteogenesis to optimize aesthetics and function in patients with TMJ ankylosis.

The last presentation of the day was by Dr. Adnan Aslam, who presented on the use of titanium mesh in orbital reconstruction. A total of 85 participants from the twin cities attended the clinical meeting, with OMS faculty from all institutions. Active discussion took place on all the topics presented and was widely appreciated by the audience. In the end, Prof. Yunus Jadoon - Principal MIHS presented souvenirs to all of the attending faculty.-PR
