Karachi: Dr. Noor ul Wahab from the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery at Ziauddin University recently conducted the 2nd session of an extensive, 6 months course, featuring a 2 day workshop on dental implants on 21st and 22nd June 2014. On Day-1 – Dr. Noor delivered a lecture on "Placement of dental implants in an extraction socket", where he emphasized on performing an atraumatic extraction and demonstrated the role of using periotomes for this purpose. The participants performed extractions on specially designed artificial mandibles and also placed implants under direct supervision. Live demonstration of the procedure was performed on a patient by Dr. Noor ul Wahab, which was viewed by the participants on multimedia. On Day-2, the trainer discussed "Clinical techniques involving ridge split and ridge expansion". Prof. Dr. Navid Rashid was invited as a guest speaker, and he shared his experience with the participants. A comprehensive hands-on session was carried out, where participants performed ridge split on specially designed artificial mandibles, using osteotomes and chisels, and placed dummy implants. Hands-on session was closely supervised by Dr. Noor ul Wahab and he also graded the participants on their performance.
