ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council was re-opened on the orders of the Islamabad High Court that directed the federal government to restore the PMDC immediately.
The Islamabad High Court restored the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council with immediate effect and sentenced the Secretary Heath to six months in prison.
As per the details, the IHC heard the petition seeking concern about the closure of the PMDC despite court orders.
The court expressed discontent with the government’s failure to restore the PMDC within the given deadline and immediately ordered to open the council and warned to send ministers and other officials to jail for contempt of court.
Justice Mohsin Kiyani heard a contempt of court petition and remarked that the government's action is equivalent to slapping the court in the face. While hearing the case, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani remarked that he is sentencing the Secretary Health to 6 months in prison.
In March this year, the federal government assured the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that it will implement its orders regarding the restoration of the dissolved Pakistan Medical and Dental Council’s (PMDC) employees. The IHC has given the government two weeks to restore the council. The Ministry of National Health Services’ secretary attended the hearing conducted by a single-member bench of the IHC comprising of Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani on the contempt petition filed by the PMDC’s employees .
