Punjab CM orders uplift plan for major hospitals  

LAHORE: With a view to improve healthcare facilities in the major hospitals of Punjab, Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has sought a plan from the health secretary within seven days.

Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi, in a meeting held at his office, reiterated the government's commitment to providing excellent medical facilities to patients in public sector hospitals, especially in cases of heart emergencies. The meeting focused on reviewing the progress of primary angiography in hospitals across the province.

According to the briefing, a remarkable total of 5,534 primary angiographies have been performed in various government hospitals over the past five months. The morning shift witnessed 3,113 primary angiographies, while 1,866 were conducted during the night shift. This significant increase of 67% in these hospitals was made possible due to the directives issued by Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

The meeting also discussed the proposal to set specific targets for angiography/angioplasty in every government hospital, aiming to facilitate patients and further improve healthcare services.

At a meeting of the health department, the chief minister said he wanted comprehensive measures for providing essential facilities to the patients and addressing the issues of repairs and maintenance of hospitals’ infrastructure to improve delivery. 

The meeting also considered relocation of hospitals from their older buildings to new ones to further enhance the quality of service delivery. 

Mr Naqvi said the major hospitals will also be provided with new bio-medical machinery, equipment and other facilities. 

The meeting also agreed to propose the establishment of health councils for major hospitals

The participants were told that 60 standard medicines will be provided in the seven major teaching hospitals, while 25 essential medicines will also be supplied to all cardiology hospitals.

The meeting was attended by the chairman P&D, secretary finance, health secretary, secretary C&W, chairman PITB, CEO Infrastructure Development Authority Punjab (IDAP) and others. 

Minister for Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Dr Javed Akram participated in the meeting through a video link.
