KARACHI: Likening doctors’ services for protection of our health to those done by the army for the defence of the country, Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori says that is why the medics and other professionals, including teachers and engineers are valued in society.

Speaking at an Iftar dinner hosted by College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) Principal Professor Khalid Masood, he said the college was providing very capable doctors, and many of them were also making the country proud through their work in other countries.

The governor said due to high fees of doctors many patients were turning to hakims and homeopaths for their treatment, which was not good.

He said the doctors played the role of messiah in society, advising the students to always give priority to serving humanity.

Mr Tessori said medical students should go abroad for higher studies, but must give priority to Pakistan, because the country was in a dire need for doctors, especially in the remote areas. He also stressed the need for research, besides education.

He also emphasised on development of curriculum which is compatible with the contemporary requirements, urging the institutions to take vigorous measures in this regard.

“I am very happy to be called a public governor, that’s why I spend most of my time in the public during sehri and iftar and listen to their problems,” he said.
