LAHORE: Akhtar Saeed Medical & Dental College (AMDC) recently conducted a hands-on workshop on the Development of MCQs for the National Licensing Examination (NLE).

Prof. Col Iffat Batool(R), Dean Clinical Sciences and Head of Orthodontics Department, AMDC, in collaboration with Prof. Irum Manzoor and Prof. Atiqa of Medical Education Department, AMDC, led the workshop.

This workshop was part of many faculty development programmes arranged at AMDC.The workshop aimed at helping the teaching staff to improve their ability to construct MCQ's for NLE, according to the NLE Table of Specifications (TOS). 

The workshop elaborated the basic concepts and rationale of using MCQ's as an assessment tool. Different type of MCQ's, their anatomy and guidelines for the construction were discussed in detail.

It was emphasised that the single best answer MCQ development is the latest mode of assessment, and a well-designed MCQ allows testing for a wide breadth of content objectives and provide an objective measurement of student ability. Moreover, the structure of MCQ's according to bloom's taxonomy was rehearsed. 

By the end of the session, participants developed MCQ's of their respective specialities according to TOS provided by Pakistan Medical Commission for the upcoming NLE.

The faculty highly appreciated the workshop. According to them, they were greatly benefitted from the workshop, and their knowledge was updated according to the latest single best answer MCQ. 

 Prof. Dr Sabir Hussain, Principal AMDC, appreciated the workshop and added that such workshops should be conducted on a scheduled basis.
