5 common oral health diseases and remedies

Oral diseases can seriously harm your oral and general health, but they are also easily preventable. Here is a list of common oral health conditions and advice on preventing them.

According to the World Health Organization, around 3.5 billion people worldwide suffer from oral illnesses (WHO). The good news is that most widespread oral disorders are preventable in your own home. Oral cancer, gum disease, infectious illnesses of the mouth, and dental caries are some of these conditions. Most oral diseases and injuries can be properly treated if they are not prevented.

Sensitive teeth

Tooth sensitivity is a common dental issue that many people experience globally. Basically, having sensitive teeth is when you feel pain or discomfort in your teeth when you consume cold beverages, sweets, hot beverages, chilly air, or ice cream. When brushing and flossing, some patients with sensitive teeth may experience pain. Following proper oral hygiene practises helps lessen tooth discomfort.

Tooth decay

One of the most frequent dental problems is tooth decay, also referred to as dental caries or cavities. It occurs when plaque and the sugary or acidic foods you consume interact. Your tooth enamel is slowly eaten away by these acids, creating holes. The likelihood of tooth decaying decreases with improved oral hygiene. Preventing the formation of plaque is the greatest technique to treat decaying teeth. Once you have dental cavities or any other periodontal illness, you should try to brush your teeth. Otherwise, a dentist should treat them.

Dry mouth

A frequent oral health issue known as dry mouth, or Xerostomia, is primarily brought on by a lack of saliva. This can occur for a number of causes, but it is a side effect of taking some prescription drugs. The dangerous aspect of Xerostomia is that it deprives your gums and teeth of vital lubrication, cleaning, and hydration. A dentist will examine your teeth for indications of decay that could have been brought on by decreased salivary flow. Maintaining proper hydration with regular visits will help you avoid dental issues related to dry mouth.

Periodontal disease

Periodontal disease, commonly known as gingivitis, is a bacterial illness that develops in your mouth due to plaque build-up. Gum disease symptoms include foul breath, sore gums that are especially painful while chewing, red, puffy, or bleeding gums. To avoid further issues like tooth loss, attempt to schedule an appointment with your dentist as soon as you notice gum disease symptoms.

Surgical and non-surgical methods are both available for treating the two different forms of gum disorders. Your dentist could take care to properly scrape the tartar and plaque from the tooth's root as part of the nonsurgical treatment option. The surgical treatment approach includes surgically attempting to remove the gum infection or replace the missing bone.

Mouth cancer

Mouth cancer is a dangerous and prevalent dental disorder affecting many people worldwide. Alcohol consumption and smoking, particularly chewing tobacco, are risk factors. The majority of oral malignancies begin in the mouth as a growth or reddish lump. If you notice a growth in your mouth, you should seek immediate medical attention from a dentist. Your mouth, head, and ears will all be examined by your dentist for any signs of illness.
