KARACHI: Sindh's Health Minister recently hinted at establishing its own medical, and dental regulatory body after Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) turned down her request to lower MDCAT merit for Sindh students for admissions to provincial medical and dental colleges.

After PMC turned down their request to lower the MDCAT passing per cent, Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, Sindh's Health and Population Welfare Minister, told the news conference that they would set the Sindh Medical and Dental Council (SMDC) through legislation in the provincial assembly as she doubted the existence of PMC in four years or with a new government in the centre.

According to her, the present government got the PMC bill approved from the joint session of Parliament, although the National Assembly and the Senate separately rejected the bill. She said, as per the 18th Amendment, higher and medical education was the domain of the provincial government.
