Education Minister centres towards skills, knowledge, character-building

LAHORE: Higher education institutions should focus on imparting education based on skill development and knowledge creation to equip the Pakistani students for national and international job markets, Shafqat Mehmood said.

Shafqat Mahmood, Minister of Federal Education and Professional Training has recently made these comments while virtually addressing the opening session of 'All Pakistan Vice Chancellors' Committee Meeting'. The three-day meeting was being co-hosted by the Higher Education Commission(HEC) and the British Council Pakistan at Bhurban.

Over 200 vice chancellors and other higher education leaders from across Pakistan attended the meeting, discussed national policies and set the strategic direction for higher education

The meeting pondered upon HEC's Policy on PhD Programmes and Undergraduate Education

The minister laid special emphasis on the significance of measures needed to ensure constant improvement in the quality of education, learning access and its relevance and research.
He urged the Vice-Chancellors to pay special attention to the character-building of the students.
Shafqat Mehmood said, 

"No doubt, Pakistan needs an increase in the number of universities as the country's population is continuously growing; however, this should not happen at the cost of quality."
