GENEVA: World Health Organization has recently announced six new commitments to accelerate progress for the 2025 nutrition targets, which had been pushed even further off course during the pandemic at the Nutrition for Growth Summit in Tokyo.

COVID-19 and climate change have aggravated malnutrition in all its forms and threatened the sustainability and resilience of food systems globally. The WHO has proclaimed six new commitments for 2025 nutrition targets at the summit.

The commitments include expanding initiatives to prevent and manage overweight and obesity and stepping up activities to create food environments that promote safe and healthy diets. It has also been heading to support countries in addressing acute malnutrition, accelerating anaemia reduction and raising quality breastfeeding promotion and support. WHO has also committed to strengthening nutrition data systems and capacity.
