CME at DUHS for Dental Care Professionals (DCP)‏

Vice Chancellor of DUHS Prof. Umar Farooq envisions for the bright future of Dental Care professionals. Dow University of Health Sciences organized One day CME for Dental Hygienist.

Dow University of Health Sciences is the only university in Pakistan that offers four years Bachelors Degree (BS) in Dental Care Professional (Dental Hygienist & Dental Technologist). This program was registered with the Higher Education Commission in 2010.

On 19th August 2014 – Tuesday, School of Dental Care Professional (DCP) - Dow University of Health Sciences, organized a one day CME program, including lectures and hands on workshop for their qualified Dental Hygienist and students in their state of the art OHJA campus.

Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Umar Farooq was the Chief Guest of this program. In his address, he praised the efforts of Dr. Azmina Hussain (In charge- DCP, Associate Professor –Oral Pathology & PhD Scholar – Public Health - DIDC) in conducting this first ever seminar and hands on workshop for the Dental Hygienist. Also, he showed his gratitude towards the guest speakers for taking out time from their busy schedules. He also said that he can envision a bright future of DCPians.

Prof. Muhammad Khalil Khan, Periodontist from Saudi Arabia and Dr. Urooj Saqib, a hygienist from Canada were the guest speakers in this CME program.

Program started with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Dr. M.Adeel Ahmed-Assistant Professor (Operative Dentistry-Dow International Dental College).

Dean, Faculty of Dentistry, Prof. Dr. Mirza Muhammad Shakir welcomed the audience and in his welcome address praised the vision of Professor Massod Hameed Khan, who envisaged DCP before anyone could think about it. He further said that it gives him an immense pleasure to be a part of this first CME of DCP for dental hygienist under the leadership of Dr. Azmina Hussain.

Prof. Muhammad Masroor Ahmed, Principal Dow International College of Medicine & Dentistry had also been present to grace the occasion and he emphasized students to take benefit of the program and upgrade knowledge according to world standards.

Dr. Azmina Hussain in her address acquainted the audience with the core objectives of the program at large followed by workshop’s objectives specifically. She said it's an honor to be a part of this epochal event whereby history is being made. Furthermore, she said it's now our aim to take this program to the level of post graduation. Also, the purpose of this program was to educate the audience regarding national and International licensing pathways for dental hygienists and dental technologists.

Dr. Ashar Afaq, Vice Principal Dow International Dental College explained the facilities available in the institute for dental students at both graduate and undergraduate levels.

Followed by the inaugural session, scientific program started.

Dr. Urooj Saqib spoke on the importance and opportunities of Dental Hygenist in Canada. She also gave a detailed talk on the accreditation system for Dental hygienist in Canada along with the job opportunities.

Prof. Khalil delivered an extensive lecture on Hand instruments used in the field of Periodontics. He focused on the new instruments available in the marketplace for the Dental Hygienist. He also discussed methods and techniques of using different instruments in nonsurgical debridement. Followed by the lecture, Prof. Khan got a hands on workshop and explained the role of pawns on the mannequins in the Phantom Head Laboratory of DIDC.

Prof. Khalil delivered an extensive lecture on Hand instruments used in the field of Periodontics. He focused on the new instruments available in the marketplace for the Dental Hygienist.
