KARACHI: Fatima Jinnah Dental College (FJDC) recently arranged an orientation day and foundation week for the students of its 30th batch.

Dr Gulrukh Askary, Director Academics and Head of Oral Pathology Department, gave a brief introduction about the college. She also introduced the Heads of Department and demonstrators to the students.

Then Dr Rafia Ruaz, Head of the Oral Biology Department, talked about FJDC graduates' uniqueness due to their knowledge and clinical skills. Students gave their introduction and were also inquired about their interests in extracurricular activities.

Later, FJDC held Foundation and Activity Week. FJDC planned these activities to have a positive start to the academic session and reinforce healthy habits in the students.

Every day three lectures were conducted till noon. These classes were structured so that the students were given basic knowledge about BDS 1st year subjects and a brief introduction to the branches of dentistry. Out of the lectures, the most significant ones were presentation skills based on Mayer's 12 principles of multimedia learning and a creative writing workshop.

Extracurricular activities were conducted, including sports, board games, spelling bee, debates and a photography contest.

The students were asked to give their feedback about the pre-curriculum classes to be incorporated in the future terms. The new students enjoyed themselves thoroughly and looked forward to the start of their classes.
