KARACHI: The Royal Academy of Facial Aesthetic recently conducted a 5-day course on 'Dental Implant and Laser in Implant'. 

Module 1 

Dr Aosaf Anwar started the session by giving an overview of Implants and clearing many complex concepts. Dr Batool Vazir then followed by medical conditions and how to manage them. 

Zafar Abbas then delivered a lecture on atraumatic extraction by following periotome protocols, managing bony defects, bone grafting and membrane protocols.

Participants get hands-on experience on flap designing, connective tissue graft, crisscross suturing and frenectomy on goats' heads.

Module 2 & 3

Dr Aosaf Anwar gave a lecture on Treatment Planning and Surgical Intervention. He explained all the components of the Implant Kit. He gave a hands-on demonstration to the participants, divided into groups, on Topo Dent Model. 

Zafar Abbas then taught OPG tracing for the Implant and how to choose the correct size and diameter. A demonstration of Platelet Rich Fibrin then followed it, which has been used to form sticky bone.

Participants were given a live demonstration of the Implant placement on the patient. After which, participants placed implants in the patient's mouth under supervision. 

 

Module 4

The day was focused only on the Prosthetic component of the Implant. Dr Aosaf Anwar discussed the methods of impression and choosing the correct type of abutments and crown. He also gave a hands-on demonstration on Open and Closed Tray Impression Techniques.

Participants then actively practised and got hands-on experience on models and patients under the supervision of Dr Zafar Abbas.

Module 5

The last day of the workshop was based on Laser implants. Using a laser in implant dentistry offers notable advantages during the implant procedure. In this session, Dr Saad Ahmed conducted the lecture and demonstrated Laser Machine.

In the end, the certificates of attendance and performance were disturbed to participants and speakers.
