Punjab health minister assesses teaching hospitals’ upgrade 

LAHORE: Presiding over a high-level meeting, Punjab Caretaker Health Minister Prof Dr Javed Akram reviewed the ongoing upgrade of all public sector teaching hospitals in the province as per chief minister’s directions.

The meeting convened in the Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education, was also attended by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Dr Farqad Alamgir and Punjab Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan, besides Special Secretary Operations Raja Mansoor Ahmad, Additional Secretary Admin Zahida Azhar; Additional Secretary Finance Shahida Farrukh, Additional Secretary Technical Dr Hafiz Shahid Latif, Additional Secretary Admin Primary and Secondary Health Care Rashid Irshad, Additional Secretary Establishment Ashfaqur Rahman, and Additional Secretary Medical Education Muhammad Wasim.

During the meeting, the minister conducted a comprehensive review of the ongoing efforts to upgrade government teaching hospitals and was briefed on the matter by Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan and other relevant officials.

Dr Javed Akram stated that as per the orders of Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi a comprehensive feasibility report on all government teaching hospitals is under preparation after visits by relevant officials to these healthcare facilities in Punjab.

The assessment encompasses a detailed evaluation of medical facilities, human resources, administrative matters, and development projects within government teaching hospitals. Once assessments of all government teaching hospitals are complete, the feasibility report will be presented to the chief minister.

The minister emphasized the commitment to timely completion of the hospital revamping project as per the chief minister's directives, aimed at enhancing the facilities available to patients.

He underscored the importance of providing medical facilities in the government hospitals, considering it a fundamental right of the people of Punjab.
