100 Paramedics Fired - 18 KMC doctors `settled abroad’ dismissed from job

By Our Staff Reporter Karachi: Medical and Health Services Department of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has terminated the service of 18 `ghost’ doctors and 100 paramedical staff. A press release issued by KMC’s Medical and Health Services Department said that the action against the ghost employees was taken following carrying out physical verification and checking of service record of 8,200 employees. During the verification process, 455 employees who were found absent from their duties were served show-cause notices, asking them why disciplinary action should not be taken against them for remaining absent from their duties for a longer period. However, 18 doctors and 100 paramedical staff gave no response and hence their services were terminated, the release added. Officials of KMC claimed that 18 doctors out of 118 ghost employees are reportedly settled abroad, a number of other absent employees had `fake’ service records, while some of the absentees were said to be doing jobs in other organizations. Earlier, Sindh Health Minister Jam Mehtab Dahar had ordered removal of three doctors for remaining absent from their duties for a longer period.
