Caring For The Community - KMDC’s Positive Approach

KARACHI - 'Healthy smiles for everyone' is the motto of every dental student and professional. We aim not only for the treatment of already present diseases but are also dedicated to creating awareness regarding Oral Health in the dental community to prevent further damage.

Karachi Medical & Dental College (KMDC) being always on the frontline to help and provide awareness to the society, arranged a community visit for their dental sophomores. Under the supervision of Dr. Mohammad Ashraf Ayub - Head of Department Community Dentistry, along with around 50 students, the team paid an educational visit to MARIAM ACADEMY, located in North Nazimabad, Block-H, Karachi.

Around 150-200 students’ oral health was examined using basic dental instruments, with all the data recorded properly on WHO Dental forms. Along with the examination process, informative sessions regarding proper oral habits, Importance of brushing and progression to dental caries was also arranged to which the students response was very appreciable.

Pakistan, being a developing country, faces serious issues of poor oral health and progression of dental diseases at an alarming rate. To overcome these obstacles on the pathway to a healthy lifestyle, we need to spread awareness among the community for a better future.

Thus, the main aim for this activity was to reach out to the community and to provide awareness to school-going kids about the importance of their oral health and how to maintain it. The never ending efforts of the department hope to establish a positive and long-term healthy impact on the community.
