Five held in Drap raid on fake drug unit

KARACHI: Five suspects were arrested for running a counterfeit medicine manufacturing unit in a raid conducted by a team of the Drug Regulatory Authority Pakistan (Drap) in Karachi.

According to a health ministry spokesperson, the raid was part of the ongoing countrywide crackdown on fake medicines, aligned with the vision of the Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar. Those arrested also include the factory owner, he says.

The Drap team conducted the raid in collaboration with drug inspectors and the police. During the raid, the production of drugs such as Alpine, Alcon, and Trigon, among others, was uncovered, leading to the confiscation of a substantial quantity of counterfeit medications.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against the factory owner and others involved in the illegal business.

The seized fake medicines have been sent to the laboratory for further analysis, the spokesperson says.
