ABU DHABI, UAE: International experts in diabetes care gathered in Abu Dhabi to discuss crucial aspects of diabetes management at the Mubadala Health Diabetes Conference taking place during Diabetes Awareness Month and ahead of World Diabetes Day on November 14.

The inaugural day of the conference featured distinguished global figures specialising in diabetes care, engaging in discussions and presentations on the latest advancements in diabetes care.

Dr Mohammed Al-Khatib, Conference Chairman and Medical Director at HealthPlus Diabetes and Endocrinology Center, delivered an opening address underscoring the significance of collaboration and innovation in diabetes care.

Prof Maha Barakat, Assistant Minister for Health and Life Sciences at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, provided valuable insights into the latest updates in diabetes guidelines, emphasising evidence-based care and aligning with the standards set by the American Diabetes Association.

The day comprised four concurrent workshops focusing on cases from diabetes clinics, discussions on the role of technology versus pharmacology in Type 2 Diabetes management, and the impact of dietary choices on type 2 diabetes treatment.

Prof. Kevin Murphy from Imperial College London discussed the potential of dietary manipulation in preventing diabetes and metabolic diseases, while Dr Adam Buckley from Imperial College London Diabetes Centre Abu Dhabi examined glucose monitoring and target setting.

Dr Mustafa Khan, Medical Director of Imperial College London Diabetes Centre, expressed pride in organising the event in collaboration with HealthPlus Diabetes and Endocrinology Centre, emphasising the importance of enhanced diabetes management practices and the involvement of renowned international experts.

Dr Tarek Faid, Consultant Endocrinologist at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City Abu Dhabi, focused on early A1C measurement and weight control in Type 2 Diabetes management, with a special emphasis on Tirzepatide.

Dr Lyndon Marc Evans, Consultant Diabetologist at Cardiff University UK, highlighted the interconnectivity of Cardio-Renal Metabolic conditions and holistic care.

The second day of the conference will feature discussions on topics such as the prevention and treatment of Diabetic Kidney Disease and provide a comprehensive view of diabetes from an endocrine perspective.

This event serves as a crucial platform for healthcare practitioners nationwide to unite against diabetes, encouraging knowledge sharing, groundbreaking research, and discussions on effective strategies to address this widespread health challenge.
