KP governor advocates lifestyle changes to curb diabetes 

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali underscores the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle and maintaining a balanced diet to control deadly diseases such as diabetes, terming it a silent killer and urging timely diagnosis and proper management.

Speaking at an event organised by the Omar Diabetes Foundation on World Diabetes Day at the Governor House, Haji Ghulam Ali highlights the need for individuals to make lifestyle changes to prevent diabetes and reduce the risk of other associated health conditions.

He also calls upon philanthropists to contribute to the cause of promoting healthier living, and   pledges his support to institutions dedicated to serving those affected by diabetes.

The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including Omar Foundation Chairman Justice (Retd) Mian Mohammad Ajamal, CEO Dr Umar Rohab, Prof Dr Abrar Ahmed, Dr Sheikh Fahad Falah, members of the Board of Directors, diabetes experts, social and political personalities, and representatives from the business community.

Chairman of the Omar Foundation, Justice (Rtd) Mian Muhammad Ajamal, Prof Dr Abrar Ahmad, and CEO Dr Umar Wahab shared insights into the foundation's efforts to serve people in Islamabad, Muzaffarabad, and Peshawar.

They highlighted Pakistan's status as the third-largest country in terms of diabetes prevalence, with over 30 million diabetic patients, affecting nearly one in every four individuals living in the country.

Governor Ali praises the Omar Foundation for its commitment to raising awareness about diabetes and providing free treatment to underprivileged patients, including free medicines and insulin. He expresses his intention to expand the foundation's services nationwide and assures them of his full support.

He also stresses the importance of maintaining a healthy body through quality food and avoiding overeating, emphasizing the value of regular prayers and ablutions in promoting overall well-being.

In addition to the event, a walk was organised to raise awareness about diabetes, and shields were presented to doctors and staff. The institution also honored the Governor with a guest of honour shield.

The Omar Diabetes Foundation's dedication to diabetes awareness and free treatment for the less fortunate is seen as a commendable step towards eradicating the disease and fostering a healthier society.
