FJDC reaffirms resolve to support women’s cause

KARACHI: The Fatima Jinnah Medical College (FJDC) reiterated its resolve to empower women through ensuring gender equality, equal economic and healthcare opportunities, and their inclusion in decision-making processes on the World Women’s Day.

In a message the FJDC management says the world Women’s Day provides an opportunity to recognise the women’s contribution to society and also an occasion to accept the challenges faced by them and to make efforts to address them.

It says that educating and empowering women is essential to breaking down gender barriers and ensuring that women have equal opportunities to succeed. The FJDC supports women’s access to quality education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, as well as inclusion of their perspectives in decision-making processes.

It rejoices in the fact that today women make a significant portion of the dental workforce, and making valuable contributions to the field and shaping the future of dentistry.

FJDC believes that women’s rights are human rights and these rights include the right to enjoy the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health; to be educated; to own property; to vote; and to earn an equal wage.

It lauds the fact that an increasing number of women are rising to leadership roles in government, business, and civil society.

“We at Fatima Jinnah Dental College (FJDC) strongly believe that every woman should ‘Shine on, not just today but every day!’.”

The FJDC is proud to announce that more than 75 percent of its faculty and staff comprises females. “We believe in gender equality and equal pay. The majority of our female graduates have successful careers and are working diligently at high-ranking positions nationally and internationally.”

At the same time, the FJFC strongly condemns all sorts of maleficent actions against women and girls and as an institution takes pride in creating a safe environment for its female staff, students, and patients.

The FJDC also encourages other organisations to take a stand by supporting policies and taking initiatives that promote gender equality at workplace, such as equal pay, flexible working arrangements, and opportunities for career advancement. “We can also mentor and support young women who are interested in pursuing careers in any profession, providing them with the resources and guidance they need to succeed.”

The institution takes inspiration from the founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, when he rightly said: “No nation can ever be worthy of its existence that cannot take its women along with the men. No struggle can ever succeed without women participating side by side with men. There are two powers in the world; one is the sword and the other is the pen. There is great competition and rivalry between the two. There is a third power stronger than both, that of the women.”
