Health workers under severe COVID-19 attack in Pakistan, senior doctor lost his life

KARACHI: With the reporting of over 4000 coronavirus cases across the country, 500 doctors and paramedic staff are said to come out COVID-19 positive in Karachi.

The spokesperson of the Pakistan Pediatric Association (PPA) recently said that Prof. Salahuddin Ahmed Shaikh, a senior paediatrician associated with the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH), died recently due to complications of the COVID-19 in Karachi. He added that despite being fully vaccinated and getting a booster, Prof. Shaikh got re-infected and died during treatment.

With the whopping rate of almost 40pc for Karachi, the national positivity rate has reached 7.8 per cent. As per the recent statistics of the National Command and Operation Centre NCOC, a total of 51,236 tests were conducted in the country, of which 4,027 came back positive. However, the NCOC will meet today to deliberate on possible ways to curb the spread of the dreaded disease.

Earlier, the NCOC urged the provinces to review the situation and restrict public gatherings, schools, restaurants, weddings and transportation.
