LAHORE: The Asia Pacific Dental Students Association (APDSA-Pakistan) organised a dental camp at the Bali Memorial Trust Orphanage, Shadman, Lahore, to promote oral health and prevent related diseases, in line with the theme of World Oral Health 2023.

The camp was organised by APDSA Liaison Officer Narmeen Azher, under the supervision of Dr Asim Riaz, a faculty member at FMH.

The association thanked FMH College of Medicine and Dentistry Principal Dr Abid Ashar for his support in making the camp a success.

The APDSA team conducted basic dental check-ups of 45-50 children living in the orphanage and made referrals to FMH College where treatment was required. The children were also given Colgate-sponsored hampers.

The next was an awareness session, where brushing models and PowerPoint presentations were used to educate the children about oral health. After the session, an iftar feast was given to the volunteers and the children, provided by the Aasra-e-Khalq Welfare Association.

Dr Asim Riaz and Dr Sara Ali, Vice President of Aasra-e-Khalq, also joined the iftar and the camp.

Later, Eid goodie bags were distributed among the children.

As per the APDSA team, the camp was a resounding success, achieving the ultimate objective of preserving precious smiles, spreading kindness and contentment. “We witnessed happy faces, enlightened minds, and wholesome moments at the end of the camp,” the team observes.

The camp provided the healthcare workers an opportunity to give back to the community, and not only create awareness about oral health, but also spread happiness and contentment among children who do not have families to celebrate with.
