JSMU, JPMC celebrate Mother’s Day

KARACHI: To honour the women's role as mothers and caregivers, the Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) and the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) celebrated Mother’s Day on May 16 with a special event

 The event was organised by JSMU Asst Prof Dr Nighat Ali Shah at Najmuddin Auditorium, JPMC

JSMU faculty, including Registrar Dr Azam Khan, besides doctors, nurses and other staffers from JPMC, attended the event with the theme “Maa Rahay Salamat” (May Mother Stay Healthy).

It also featured a theatrical performance by social activist and the founder of Tehrik-e-Niswan Cultural Action Group Sheema Kermani and her team to highlight the issues faced by women in different spheres of life and their resilience and strength. The play was well-received by the audience for its powerful message.

On the occasion, a special tribute was paid to nurses for their tireless services and contribution towards saving precious lives in hospitals, by presenting gifts and certificates to them as a token of appreciation and gratitude. 

The gifts and certificates were presented by Prof Dr Razia Korejo, Prof Dr Sadiqa, Dr Nighat Ali Shah, Sheema Kermani, Dr Masroor and others.

Dr Nighat Ali Shah, the main organiser of the event, said it was aimed at celebrating motherhood and the achievements of women in various fields. She said that JSMU was committed to promoting gender equality and women empowerment in the health sector and beyond.

JSMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Amjad Siraj Memon lauded the efforts of Dr Shah and her team for arranging such a meaningful and inspiring event. He said that JSMU was proud of its female faculty, staff and students, who were making a difference in society.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Shah and a group photo session.
