KARACHI: Telenor Pakistan and UNICEF recently handed over the Digital Birth Registration (DBR) project to the Sindh government after successfully launching and implementing it in the other three districts.
Telenor Pakistan, UNICEF, and the Sindh government attended an event in Karachi in which the DBR project was transferred to the provincial government.
One of the statements said that the project was designed for birth registration for kids under 17, focusing on children under five years of age. Since its beginning in 2016, the digital birth registration system has already helped around 1.8 million children across Pakistan recognise their identities.
Irfan Wahab Khan, Chief Executive Officer, Telenor Pakistan, explained that it plays a significant role in fulfilling its development goals. He said that birth registration was the fundamental right of every child and was legal proof of their existence. Every life registered through the DBR platform took the nation another step closer to fulfilling the country’s development goals, and even more importantly, played a vital role in mitigating the effects of inequalities and socio-economic disparities, the executive said.
