LAHORE: The Department of Community and Preventive Dentistry at the University College of Medicine & Dentistry (UCMD), The University of Lahore recently organised a seminar on post-pandemic oral hygiene.

The pandemic has affected every person and aspect of life. The oral cavity is not saved from the deleterious effects of the pandemic either. Recent Literature shows that the stay-at-home routine during the pandemic has very adversely affected the mental health of individuals in lockdown. This leads to lethargy and laziness, making even trivial tasks seems very difficult. It includes normal oral hygiene tasks like brushing and flossing.

The seminar was purposed to educate the young dentists regarding the situation of the oral hygiene of the general population and the ways to tackle the upcoming challenges.

Dr Arooj ul Hassan, Associate Professor and Head of Community and Preventive Dentistry Department, UCMD, delivered the initial lecture titled 'The effects of pandemic and management of gum diseases amongst the general population '. He explained the current condition, its cause, and the future management strategies that would help prevent and cure gum diseases. A question-and-answer session followed the lecture.

The GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) members also attended the seminar and added to Dr Arooj's presentation to help people better understand the necessary precautionary measures to prevent gum diseases. The senior faculty of the University College of Dentistry commended the efforts put forth by Dr Arooj and his department.
