Professor extracts rare canine tooth

KARACHI: A rare two-rooted and double canaled permanent mandibular canine tooth was extracted recently by Prof HR Sukhia at his private practice.

A typical canine has only one root and one canal. The ectopic canine was buried deep in the jaw and interfering with space closure. Commenting on the extraction Prof Sukhia stated that canines have a single root and a single canal. The occurrence of two roots and two canals is a rare entity ranging from 1 to 5%.

Furthermore, the anatomy of root canal morphology plays a decisive role in determining the conditions under which endodontic treatment can be performed effectively.
