COLOGNE: The five-day International Dental Show (IDS) 2023, a leading international dental industry trade fair concluding recently, was participated by 1,788 exhibiting companies with their high-end medical and dental technology products from 60 countries, attracting 120,000 trade visitors from 162 countries.

This year’s IDS celebrated its 100th anniversary and was held for the 40th time.

The visitors’ quality at the event was exceptional with a high level of decision-making competence and internationality.

Furthermore, 84pc of the respondents were satisfied with the digital platform IDS connect and the associated additional offers.

As per observers, IDS 2023 showcased two major trends: a stringent digital workflow and improved sustainability, displaying several innovative digital dental technologies such as AI-enabled digital X-rays and more effective digital workflows for dental laboratories.

Sustainability was also a focus, with the introduction of CO2-neutral image plate scanners.

The event maintained its high level of internationality with 60pc of the visitors coming from abroad, especially the European Union (EU) countries, including Italy, France, the Netherlands and  Spain, but also from Belgium, Romania and Greece, along with visitors from Asia, South America, the USA, and Canada.

As per the first visitors survey, 80pc of them were involved in the buying and procurement decisions of their company.

The event’s success was praised by several representatives, including Mark Stephen Pace, Chairman of the Association of the German Dental Industry e.V., and Oliver Frese, Chief Operating Officer of Koelnmesse. The next IDS event -- the 41st International Dental Show, is scheduled to take place from March 25 to 29, 2025.

The exhibitors also expressed their satisfaction with the event, with Dentsply Sirona offering a programme with 40 hours of live demonstrations and hands-on training.

Andreas Utz, Chief Operating Officer of Straumann GmbH Germany, was pleased with the interest in their innovative digital solutions. Josef Richter, Chief Operating Officer and President of GC Europe AG, termed the trade fair experience irreplaceable for the dental family.

Overall, IDS 2023 demonstrated its outstanding significance as a world-leading trade fair for the dental industry.
