KARACHI:  Dr Faisal Sultan recently emphasised the need for local research and innovation in healthcare to ‘guide our actions ', which he said could be possible by having an educated, trained and qualified workforce for health services in Pakistan.

Dr Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Health, spoke at the launch of entomology, nutrition, ORIC courses at the Health Services Academy of Islamabad. He said that we required highly trained and qualified people to conduct local research and find out if the global solutions would work locally. He further said they would follow global research as it had to be adopted according to needs and requirements.

The infectious diseases physician also said the certificate courses on entomology and nutrition that would lead to a master’s degree programme would provide the trained and educated workforce to deal with dengue, malaria and other vector-borne diseases. Nutrition was another area where we needed experts as our underprivileged and people from our affluent class were also facing malnutrition due to lack of knowledge, he added.
