Karachi; A one-day session organized by Prof. Dr. Asghar Shigri, Head of Department, Community Dentistry, Baqai


Dental College to commemorate World Oral Health Day. Three reputed guest speakers were invited from different universities.


Associate Professor, Dr. Ashar Afaq, Vice Principal, HOD, Community Dentistry, Dow Dental College (DHA Campus), spoke about the risk factors of oral health diseases like, dental caries, periodontitis and oral cancer. Assistant Professor, Dr. Sidra Mohiuddin HOD, Ziauddin Dental College, discussed the possible, most basic preventive measures for oral health diseases and the importance of regular dental visits.


Assistant Professor, Dr. Kulsoom Fatima Rizvi Vice Principal, HOD Community Dentistry, Bahria Dental College, spoke regarding the advocacy of oral health and emphasized on the implementation of Common Risk Factor Approach (CRFA) for the prevention and control of Oral Diseases and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD). Furthermore, she stressed upon working with policy-makers to define strategies to reduce sugar intake, tobacco use and increase taxation on harmful products.


The session was concluded by Dr. Talha Siddiqui Vice Principal and Associate Professor, Operative Dentistry, BDC. He thanked the speakers for being a part of the occasion. Guest speakers were presented with shields by Vice Chancellor, BMU, Prof. Dr. Zahida Baqai, a pioneer in medical and dental education, working diligently for the welfare of our underprivileged communities.
