LAHORE: Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences and Research (IADSR) recently held a one-day workshop as a part of the IADSR 13th Professional Diploma in Advanced General Dentistry (PDAGD). The workshop themed ‘Basic Principles of Dental Implantology’.
Dr Amin-ur-Rahman, CEO, Rahman and Rahman Dental Surgeons, facilitated the session. He elucidated to participants some basic principles of ‘Osseointegration’, including the factors behind its success and failure and the diversity of materials present for the purpose.
‘Principles of Restoration Driven Implant Surgery’ were also highlighted with the concept of ‘Begin with the End in Mind’. Later in the session, the close nexus of implants and prosthodontics was effectively communicated to the participants. The lectures were ended with an elaborated discussion on ‘Maintenance of Dental Implants & Complication Handling’.
In the second half of the session, Dr Sameer Nasir, a certified Implantologist, facilitated the hands-on part of the module. He carried out implant placement simulation exercises on jaw models to ensure that participants understood the sequence of drills used in the implant surgery and the technicalities involved in osseointegrating the implant.
The session concluded with queries and feedback from the participants.
