LAHORE: The successful implementation of the Medical Teaching Institutions Act is possible only with the mutual consent of all stakeholders.
Punjab Caretaker Health Minister Dr Javed Akram said this while presiding over a meeting held in the specialized healthcare and medical education department that was also attended by Health Secretary Dr Ahmed Javed Qazi, special secretaries Shoaib Jadoon and Syed Wajid Ali Shah, Additional Secretary (Admin) Muhammad Ashraf, Prof Ali Madih Hashmi, Additional Secretary (Home) Muhammad Mahmood, Munanza Hashmi and Nishtar Medical University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Rana Altaf through a video link.
The minister reviewed the reforms to be introduced under the Medical Teaching Institutions Act during the meeting.
Dr Akram said that in the MTI Act, the final approval of the reforms has to be given by the cabinet.
During the meeting, the officers concerned briefed the caretaker minister on various issues of the department.
The meeting also discussed new nominees for the King Edward Medical University and Safdar Medical College, Sialkot, Board of Governors.
The minister said all the available means were being used to improve the conditions of government hospitals across the province.
"We are ready to take all possible steps for the improvement of government teaching hospitals of Punjab. Patients coming to these hospitals are our top priority," the minister added.
