A Learning Day on "Head & Neck Oncology" In Hyderabad

Head & Neck Cancers have become a concerning health issue and emerging as the most frequently encountered malignant disease of oral cavity. This signifies the need for consensual management strategy for patients, affected by head & neck cancers that is based upon contemporary and updated concepts.


Hyderabad: Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), dedicated a Learning day for “Head and Neck Oncology”.


The day began with recitation of Holy Quran’s verses. The event was attended by residents and consultants of OMFS and Plastic Surgery from various institutes of Karachi and Hyderabad. Residents of OMFS from LUMHS, Karachi Medical and Dental College and Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry, each presented their cases.  Each case presentation was followed by thorough discussion on various aspects of management of patient.



Discussion panel comprised of Prof.Mervyn Hosein (Dean, Ziauddin Dental College, Karachi), Prof. Shahab Ghani (Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, LNH, Karachi), Prof. Mohsin Girach (Principal, Jinnah Medical and Dental College), Prof. Iqbal Hussain (Consultant ENT Surgeon, SIUT), Dr. Aqil Shah (Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, Patel Hospital, Karachi), Dr. Tauqir ul Islam (Maxillofacial Surgeon, LNH) Dr. Raheel (Consultant Histopathologist, LUMHS), Dr. Naeem Laghari (Ex director NIMRA Jamshoro), Dr. Nabeel Humayun (Consultant ENT surgeon, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical College Karachi), Dr. Fahad Haroon (Consultant Radiologist and Director Karachi X-rays), Dr. Adnan Ahmed ( consultant radiologist LUMHS), Dr jawad Ahmed consultant radiologist PUMHS), Dr. Asghar (Consultant Oncologist at KIRAN) & Dr. Sufiyan Ahmed (Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon Karachi Medical and Dental College).



The consultants provided their valuable contribution, in the form of knowledge and wisdom for each case. Prof. Syed Ghazanfar Hassan (Chairman OMFS department, LUMHS), Dr. Kashif Ali Chanar (Associate Prof OMFS LUMHS) and Dr. Salman Shafique (Associate Prof OMFS, Isra Dental College) were moderators for the session. All the residents actively participated and raised pertaining and relevant questions.


Prof. Bikharam Devrajani, Vice Chancellor, LUMHS was invited as Chief Guest for the event. Shields were presented by him to the Panelists, Residents and Organizers. Certificates were also distributed as a token of encouragement and recognition for the organizing committee’s efforts in making the event successful. The program was concluded with the pledge to continue organizing such informative events in the future.
