ACHER workshop on Orthodontics

First workshop of Orthodontics at Academy of Continuing Health Education and Research (ACHER) ACHER organized its first hands-on work shop titled Segmental retraction mechanics in extraction cases. The workshop was attended by 10 dental surgeons, postgraduate residents and house officers from the Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The workshop was conducted by Prof. Haroon Shahid Qazi and Dr. Afeef Umar Zia comprising of didactic lectures and typodont based exercises. The workshop was followed by an orientation session on Orthodontics Certification Course for the private practitioners, also covering the latest and customized web portal developed by ACHER for the course participants, who can register online and take part in discussion forums regarding their day to day practice issues. Following are the highlights of the Workshop; Lectures: Discussions and cross questioning about the need of extractions, selection of patients, ideal treatment options for these cases and the bio-mechanics of segmental and sliding mechanics. Hands on: Typodonts with braces were used to teach participants, how to make various loops for canine and anterior teeth retractions, their activation and bends needed to do it optimally. At the end of the workshop certificates were awarded to the respective doctors along with a photography session. ACHER strives to provide the latest, evidence-based continuing dental education to the progressive, dynamic and vibrant private practitioners across the country.
